Born on October 15, 1931, in Rameswaram, Tamil Nadu, Kalam became one of India’s most respected scientists before serving as the country’s 11th President from 2002 to 2007.
Kalam played a key role in advancing India’s missile and defence programmes through his work with the Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) and the Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO). His contributions to the country’s scientific and technological development, however, earned him the title ‘Missile Man of India’.
Beyond science and defence, Kalam championed education and youth development, encouraging students to pursue knowledge, innovation and national service. His birth anniversary is observed in recognition of his contributions to science, education and nation-building.
Shah’s tribute highlighted Kalam’s enduring legacy of scientific achievement, patriotism and public service, which continues to influence generations across the country.
