Amit Shah Pays Tribute To Arun Jaitley On His Death Anniversary

Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Monday paid tribute to former Union Minister and senior BJP leader Arun Jaitley on his death anniversary, recalling his contributions as a legal expert, parliamentarian and administrator. Shah said Jaitley’s enduring legacy would continue to inspire young leaders.

Remembering Jaitley, Shah highlighted his ability to communicate government policies effectively and his crucial role in implementing major policy decisions. He further described the former Minister as an incisive legal expert, masterful speaker and ace administrator whose contribution to public life remains significant.

Arun Jaitley, who lived from 1952 to 2019, was a prominent lawyer, politician and senior BJP leader. He held several key portfolios in the Union government, including Finance, Defence, Corporate Affairs, Information and Broadcasting, and Law and Justice.

As Finance Minister, Jaitley played a key role in major economic and tax reforms under the PM Modi government, including the implementation of the Goods and Services Tax (GST). He effectively explained complex policies in Parliament.

Jaitley remained an influential voice in Parliament and played an important role in shaping the government’s economic and policy agenda. His legal expertise and communication skills, however, helped him articulate key reforms and engage effectively on matters of governance.

Jaitley passed away on August 24, 2019, aged 66. He was posthumously awarded the Padma Vibhushan, India’s second-highest civilian honour, in 2020 for his contribution to public affairs.

Shah’s tribute recalled Jaitley’s lasting contribution to Indian public life and highlighted how his leadership, expertise and commitment to governance continue to serve as an inspiration for the younger generation.
