Amit Shah Orders AI-Powered Upgrade Of Cyber Crime Helpline 1930

Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Wednesday reviewed the functioning of the National Cyber Crime Helpline 1930 and directed officials to undertake a comprehensive upgrade of the platform to enhance citizen services and strengthen cyber fraud response mechanisms.

During a high-level meeting in New Delhi, Shah assessed various citizen-centric initiatives established to provide immediate relief to victims of cyber crimes, particularly cyber financial fraud. He noted that the 1930 helpline has emerged as a key platform for the quick and easy registration of cybercrime complaints and stressed that every citizen seeking assistance should receive timely support, with no complaint left unattended.

The Home Minister directed that the 1930 helpline system be comprehensively modernised using advanced technologies, including Artificial Intelligence (AI), to improve efficiency, response time and service delivery. He said the upgraded system should facilitate faster complaint registration, intelligent call routing and effective grievance management.

Reiterating the government’s commitment to a technology-driven and citizen-centric cybersecurity framework, Shah instructed authorities to strengthen 1930 call centres operating across states and Union Territories through improved infrastructure and technical capabilities. He also called for upgrading all state-level call centres with a robust Interactive Voice Response (IVR) system to ensure seamless call management and forwarding.

To further strengthen the national cybercrime response framework, Shah directed the establishment of a national-level 1930 call centre with adequate manpower and call-handling capacity.

The centre will manage unanswered calls from states and ensure timely assistance and complaint registration for victims.

Cyber Fraud Response and Fund Recovery

The meeting reviewed the performance of the Citizen Financial Cyber Fraud Reporting and Management System (CFCFRMS), which helps block fraudulent financial transactions through the banking system and increases the chances of fund recovery.

Shah noted that the Ministry of Home Affairs had issued a Standard Operating Procedure (SOP) in January 2026 for the speedy resolution of cyber financial fraud cases. He also directed regular monitoring of the Money Restoration Module (MRM) and Grievance Redressal Module (GRM), which have benefited nearly one lakh citizens so far.

Officials informed the meeting that the system now contains around 94 lakh accounts eligible for fund restoration.
