Union Home and Cooperation Minister Amit Shah on Friday laid the foundation stone for an 81-foot-tall statue of Lord Shiva at the Shaktipeeth Shri Varadayini Mataji temple complex in Rupal, Gandhinagar district, during his religious engagements on the sixth day of Sharadiya Navratri.
Shah offered prayers at the temple and sought blessings before participating in the foundation stone ceremony.
Later, Shah visited the Bahuchara Mata temple in Mansa with his family. He offered prayers and took part in the aarti, seeking blessings for the well-being of people in Gujarat and across the country.
Earlier in the day, Shah visited two Jain religious institutions in Ahmedabad. He met Gachchhadhipati Acharya Nar Ratna Surishwarji Maharaj at Prerna Tirth Derasar in the Satellite area before visiting Shri Vishwanandikar Jain Sangh in Paldi to receive blessings from Gachchhadhipati Acharya Uday Ratna Surishwarji Maharaj.
Shah’s visits took place during Navratri, when devotees across Gujarat visit temples and take part in religious ceremonies.
Rupal, located around 15 km from Gandhinagar, is known for its Varadayini Mata temple and the annual Palli festival held during Navratri.
The festival draws large numbers of devotees, with the ceremonial procession of the Palli as its main attraction.
The proposed 81-foot statue of Lord Shiva will become an additional feature of the temple complex.
Shah represents the Gandhinagar Lok Sabha constituency.
