Amit Shah Inaugurates ₹325 Crore Sabar Dairy Plant In Rohtak; Emphasises Dairy’s Role In Rural Economy

Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Friday inaugurated the ₹325 crore Sabar Dairy Plant at Industrial Model Township (IMT), Rohtak — the country’s largest facility for producing curd, buttermilk, and yoghurt.

The plant, equipped with state-of-the-art machinery, aims to strengthen the rural economy, boost farmers’ income, and enhance nutrition access across the National Capital Region and northern states.

Speaking at the event, Amit Shah emphasised the vital role of the dairy sector in rural development, calling it a key driver of nutrition and economic growth.

“The dairy sector is a strong source of nutrition. Besides strengthening the rural economy, it will help enhance the prosperity of farmers,” he said.

He also lauded Prime Minister Narendra Modi for establishing the dedicated Ministry of Cooperation, which he said has given a new direction to India’s cooperative movement.

State-of-the-Art Facility

The Sabar Dairy Plant boasts a daily production capacity of 150 metric tonnes of curd, three lakh litres of buttermilk, 10 lakh litres of yoghurt, and 10 metric tonnes of sweets.

Expected to generate nearly 1,000 direct and indirect jobs, the plant will serve farmers across Haryana, Rajasthan, Punjab, Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, and Maharashtra.

Amit Shah announced that the plant’s capacity will be doubled next year, ensuring greater outreach and benefits for rural producers.

Expressing gratitude to the people of Haryana, Shah said, “I bow down to the motherly energy of Haryana. Despite being a small state, it contributes the largest number of brave personnel to our paramilitary and armed forces, protecting the nation at its borders.”

He also reflected on Kurukshetra’s spiritual heritage, noting its significance as the land where Lord Krishna delivered the Bhagavad Gita’s timeless wisdom.

Boosting Employment and Self-Reliance

Following the inauguration, Shah distributed tool kits to 2,200 artisans during the Khadi Karigar Mahotsav at Maharshi Dayanand University.

He also launched initiatives under the Prime Minister’s Employment Generation Programme (PMEGP), disbursing ₹301 crore as margin money and inaugurating Khadi Gramodyog Bhavan and PMEGP units.

Later, in Kurukshetra, the Home Minister opened a five-day exhibition on India’s new criminal laws, showcasing reforms across ten thematic sections and seven departments.

He also inaugurated and laid the foundation stones for development projects worth ₹825 crore.

The Sabar Dairy Plant marks a milestone in India’s cooperative and dairy development journey.

With its expansion plans and employment opportunities, the facility is expected to boost rural incomes, support self-reliance, and solidify India’s position as a global dairy powerhouse.
