Amit Shah, Union Home Minister and a key campaigner for the BJP, asserted on April 15 that the Central government, led by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, has spearheaded a range of initiatives aimed at the development of tribal communities and fostering overall progress in the northeast region. Shah emphasized the augmented budgetary provisions for programs benefiting tribal communities as evidence of the government’s commitment to their welfare.
Addressing a public rally in Kumarghat, Unakoti district, in support of BJP’s candidate for the East Tripura (ST) Lok Sabha constituency, Kriti Devi Debbarman, Shah delineated the various developmental endeavors undertaken for the people of Tripura and the broader northeast. He lambasted the Congress and CPI(M), holding them responsible for unrest in the state, alleging their involvement in inciting violence and sowing discord among communities.
Shah underscored that over the past decade, the Modi government had allocated ₹90,000 crore for Tripura, including substantial sums for infrastructure development, roads, railways, and airport expansion. He urged voters in both East and West Tripura constituencies to cast their ballots in favor of the BJP’s lotus symbol, advocating for Modi’s re-election as Prime Minister for a third term, citing his leadership as pivotal for development, progress, and peace.

Furthermore, Shah acknowledged the historical contributions of Tripura’s erstwhile monarchs to the region’s development, citing this as a rationale for nominating a candidate from the royal family for the East Tripura Lok Sabha seat. He accused the Left and Congress of fostering border infiltration but asserted that robust border management measures, including the completion of border fencing, had largely curtailed the issue.
The rally witnessed the presence of Chief Minister Manik Saha, former Chief Minister and BJP’s candidate for the West Tripura Lok Sabha constituency, Biplab Kumar Deb, along with several other leaders from the BJP and its coalition partners.
