Amit Shah Hails Neeraj Chopra’s New National Record At Doha Diamond League

Union Home Minister Amit Shah lauded Neeraj Chopra for his stellar performance at the Doha Diamond League 2025, where the javelin star registered a personal best throw of over 90 metres, securing a silver medal and setting a new national record.

Taking to X (formerly Twitter), Shah praised Chopra’s accomplishment:

“Stellar performance! Congratulations to @Neeraj_chopra1 on clinching the silver by surpassing your personal best of 90 m at the #DohaDiamondLeague2025. Your achievement makes us proud and your determination to excel paves the path of inspiration for our youth. Best wishes for your future endeavors.”

Chopra’s throw- his longest ever- surpassed his previous best of 89.94 metres, set in Stockholm in 2022.

With this, he has become the first Indian javelin thrower to cross the 90-metre milestone, a symbolic benchmark in the sport globally.

His throw also becomes India’s new national record in the javelin event.

The competition, held on 16 May at Qatar Sports Club, saw top javelin athletes from across the globe.

Chopra’s achievement stood out not just for the distance but also for his consistency and focus under pressure.

Consistent Performer On The Global Stage

Neeraj has proven himself as one of the world’s elite javelin throwers.

From winning gold at the Tokyo Olympics to his victory at the 2023 Doha Diamond League, and now this new record in 2025, Chopra continues to uphold India’s reputation in global athletics.

His back-to-back podium finishes also demonstrate his unwavering form, having finished second in 2024, and again in 2025 with a historic throw.

With this milestone behind him, Neeraj now looks ahead to defending his title at the 2025 World Athletics Championship.

He will also participate in the ‘Neeraj Chopra Classic’, a key Gold Category event and qualifier for the championship.

Amit Shah’s appreciation reflects the broader national pride in Chopra’s rise as a world-class athlete who inspires millions of young Indians.

The Home Minister’s remarks add to a wave of congratulatory messages from across the sports and political spectrum.

Neeraj Chopra’s achievement is not just a personal triumph- it’s a statement of India’s growing strength in world athletics.
