Amit Shah Attends BJP’s ‘Modi Pongal’ Event In Tiruchirappalli Ahead Of 2026 Tamil Nadu Polls

Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Monday took part in the Tamil Nadu BJP’s ‘Modi Pongal’ celebrations in Tiruchirappalli. The programme observed the harvest festival with traditional rituals while also carrying clear political undertones ahead of the 2026 Assembly polls.

Arriving at the Mannarpuram venue, HM Amit Shah was accorded a ceremonial reception by BJP leaders and party workers. According to organisers, the event witnessed participation from over 2,000 people.

As part of the festivities, women prepared Pongal in 1,008 earthen pots. The large-scale ritual formed a central highlight of the cultural programme.

Organised under the banner ‘Namma Ooru Modi Pongal Vizha’, the celebration underscored the BJP’s attempt to associate Prime Minister Narendra Modi with Tamil cultural heritage.

Party representatives said the initiative aimed to strengthen emotional and cultural connections with the public.

Wearing a traditional white dhoti and shirt, HM Amit Shah addressed the gathering as BJP workers joined in the symbolic cooking and offering of Pongal. Leaders said the event reflected the party’s focus on grassroots engagement in the state.

Earlier in the day, the Union Home Minister undertook visits to major temples in the Tiruchirappalli district. He offered prayers at the Jambukeswarar Temple and later paid his respects at the Ranganathaswamy Temple, a significant Vaishnavite shrine.

During these visits, HM Amit Shah interacted briefly with devotees who had gathered in large numbers. He greeted members of the public and exchanged a few words with them.

Several Union Ministers, including Piyush Goyal, Arjun Ram Meghwal, Muralidhar Mohol and L Murugan, accompanied him during the visit.

Senior BJP leaders from Tamil Nadu were also in attendance.

In view of the high-profile programme, authorities deployed tight security arrangements across Tiruchirappalli. Officials said traffic management and crowd-control measures helped ensure the smooth conduct of all events.

Overall, the BJP sees the ‘Modi Pongal’ celebration as part of its broader strategy to expand its organisational presence in Tamil Nadu.

By blending cultural programmes with political outreach, the party aims to strengthen its connection with voters in the state.
