Union Home Minister Amit Shah is set to formally inaugurate the Bharatiya Janata Party’s Assembly election campaign in Kerala on Sunday, signalling the party’s early push ahead of the crucial polls.
Arriving late Saturday night, HM Amit Shah landed at Thiruvananthapuram International Airport on a special aircraft. Over the course of his visit, he will participate in multiple political, organisational, and religious programmes in the state capital.
According to the official schedule, HM Amit Shah will commence his engagements with a visit to the historic Sree Padmanabhaswamy Temple, where he will offer special prayers, marking the symbolic start of the campaign.
Subsequently, he will meet newly elected BJP representatives from local self-government bodies. This interaction is intended to consolidate the party’s grassroots network and motivate local leaders ahead of the Assembly elections.
Later, HM Amit Shah will address the BJP’s elected representatives’ conference at Kowdiar. The session will focus on election preparedness, booth-level coordination, and constituency-specific planning.
Later in the afternoon, he will attend the party’s state core committee meeting, where senior leaders will discuss major political and electoral challenges.
Senior leaders, including Rajeev Chandrasekhar, V Muraleedharan, K Surendran, and Shobha Surendran, will attend the meetings.
According to party sources, discussions will include candidate selection for constituencies placed in A Plus and A categories, which the BJP considers vital for expanding its electoral presence in Kerala. Talks on seat-sharing among NDA allies are also likely later in the day.

Adding to its importance, the visit comes amid the arrest of Sabarimala chief priest Kandararu Rajeevaru in the gold theft case. Sources indicated that the possibility of a central agency probe may also be a topic of internal party discussions.
Meanwhile, Thiruvananthapuram city police have enforced extensive traffic restrictions across key areas from 7 AM to 6 PM Authorities have advised commuters, particularly those heading to the airport and railway stations, to plan their travel to avoid disruption.
