Union Home Minister Amit Shah met Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar at his official residence in Patna on Friday, amid intensifying political activity in the state ahead of the upcoming Assembly elections.
The two leaders held discussions lasting around 15 minutes, focusing on the National Democratic Alliance’s (NDA) campaign strategy, coordination, and candidate selection for the 243 Assembly constituencies.
Following the meeting, JD(U) national working president Sanjay Kumar Jha, who was also present, described the discussions as cordial and reaffirmed that all was well within the NDA.
“These leaders discussed various issues, including the election campaign strategy. Everything is smooth here. We have finalised the seat-sharing arrangement and announced our candidates for all 243 seats,” Jha stated.
He added that Amit Shah would commence his campaign from Saran, while Nitish Kumar would address rallies in Jagdishpur, Bhojpur district, marking the start of the alliance’s coordinated outreach.
Aiming at the Grand Alliance (Mahagathbandhan), Jha criticised its leaders for their lack of coordination and unclear seat-sharing decisions.
“The alliance is in disarray. They have allotted symbols and then withdrawn them. This proves they are disconnected from Bihar’s people and focused only on internal conflicts,” he remarked.
Addressing reports about Amit Shah’s remarks on the NDA’s leadership in Bihar, Jha clarified that the statement was misinterpreted. “Amit Shah clearly said that Nitish Kumar is the NDA’s leader in this election. We are contesting the polls under his leadership,” he confirmed.
Under the seat-sharing arrangement, both the BJP and JD(U) will contest 101 seats each, while the LJP (Ram Vilas) will contest 29 seats.
Hindustani Awam Morcha and Rashtriya Lok Morcha will contest six seats each.
