Amit Shah Pledge For Harmonious Disposal Of Tribal Issues: TMP Chief

Tipra Motha Party (TMP) supremo Pradyot Bikram Manikya Debbarma on Thursday revealed that Union Minister Amit Shah determined for the cordial solution of Tribal issues in Northeast region. Home Minister assured the leaders to addressal of tribal issues and constitution of committee for the same.

Debbarma and many other tribal leaders from the northeastern states held a meeting with the Union Home Minister in New Delhi on Thursday. The objective of the meeting was to discuss several affairs facing the tribals of the region.

Nityanand Rai, Union Minister of State for Home Affairs, was also present in the meeting.

Amit Shah also held a meeting with the representatives of 10 tribal autonomous district councils of the northeastern region on Wednesday in New Delhi, informed an official in Agartala.

The Key demands that tribal leader along with Debbarma put before Home minister included passing of the long pending 125th Amendment Bill in the Parliament providing more constitutional power to the 10 tribal autonomous district councils. Notably, the formation of district council is under the 6th schedule of the Constitution.

“The Home Minister has assured us that within a month, issues relating to all the 10 tribal autonomous district councils would be amicably addressed,” he said.

Out of total 10 tribal autonomous district councils, three each are in Assam, Mizoram, and Meghalaya, while one is in Tripura.

Tribal issues includes the deamand of separate state

Since April 2021, the TMP has been governing the Tripura Tribal Areas Autonomous District Council (TTAADC). TMP controls over two-third of the state’s 10,491 sq km area. It is worth mentioning that this particular region houses around 84 percent of trbals, translating to 12,16000 people living in the area.

The TMP has been demanding ‘Greater Tipraland’ or a separate state for the tribals under Articles 2 and 3 of the Constitution.

Tripura Tribal Areas Autonomous District Council (TTAADC) enjoys high regard as it is secong most important contitutionla body.
