On Thursday, Samajwadi Party leader Akhilesh Yadav filed his nomination for the Kannauj Lok Sabha seat in Uttar Pradesh.
SP MP Ramgopal Yadav accompanied Akhilesh Yadav during the filing of his nomination.
After filing his nomination, Akhilesh Yadav said, “I have filed my nomination papers. The sentiments of the party, leaders, workers, and everyone were that I should contest the election from here on behalf of the Samajwadi Party. I express my gratitude to everyone. I hope I will get blessings from here.”
Previously, the party had announced Tej Pratap Yadav, who is Akhilesh’s nephew and the son-in-law of RJD chief Lalu Prasad Yadav, as its candidate.
From 2000 to 2012, Akhilesh Yadav served as a Member of Parliament (MP) for the Kannauj constituency in the Lok Sabha.
After assuming the position of CM of Uttar Pradesh, Akhilesh resigned in 2012.
His party failed to secure a majority in the Uttar Pradesh (UP) state elections IN 2017. This led him to tender his resignation to the Governor.
However, in 2019, Yadav was elected Lok Sabha MP.
Subsequently, in 2022, he was elected as a Member of the Legislative Assembly (MLA) in Uttar Pradesh.
Following the Uttar Pradesh Assembly polls, Akhilesh resigned as MP in the Lok Sabha and chose to retain his seat in the state assembly.
Voting on the Kannauj seat will be in the fourth phase of the Lok Sabha election on 13 May.
