AIIMS: Be It A Doctor Or A Patient… For Consuming Cigarette-Gutkha In AIIMS, “Fine of Rs”

AIIMS: In AIIMS (All India Institute of Medical Sciences) of Delhi, according to the new guidelines. The consumption of gutkha or other tobacco products has been completely banned. If someone disobeys it, he will have to pay a fine. A notification has been issued for this and advice has been given not to use tobacco products.

This much will be the fine

If any patient and his accompanying family members are found consuming gutkha, bidi, cigarette or any other tobacco product in the hospital premises, then he will have to pay a fine of Rs.200.

Apart from outsiders, this rule will also apply to doctors, medical personnel and security staff of AIIMS. If any employee of the hospital is found involved in such activity, disciplinary action will be taken against him.

Instructions given to all departments

To ensure compliance of this rule, AIIMS has also issued guidelines to all its departments. In this, it has been emphasized that he should ask all the employees under his department to strictly follow this rule.

The notification of AIIMS

In the notification , it is clearly mentioned that the use of tobacco has been considered as the cause of cancer, heart and lung diseases. These diseases are such that they cause death. The central government had made a rule in 2003 regarding tobacco products. On its ban in public areas, the Government of India brought the Cigarettes and Other Tobacco Products (Regulation of Supply and Distribution, Prohibition of Advertisement and Production of Trade and Commerce) Act (COTPA) in 2003.

According to this rule, the use of tobacco has been banned in hospitals, institutions, public offices, public places. If someone violates it, there is also a provision for a fine of Rs 200 in the act.
