In a major step towards modernizing Maha Kumbh, the Yogi Adityanath-led Uttar Pradesh government is incorporating advanced technology to enhance the safety and convenience of the 45 crore devotees expected in Prayagraj for Maha Kumbh 2025, with the event digitized on an unprecedented scale using Artificial Intelligence (AI), social media platforms, and advanced surveillance systems for improved crowd management, security, and family reunification
For the first time in Kumbh’s history, authorities are installing AI-powered cameras across the sprawling fairgrounds to monitor the crowd 24/7.
These state-of-the-art cameras will play a pivotal role in not only bolstering security but also aiding in the swift reunification of separated individuals.
The cameras are equipped to track and identify people, ensuring that families who become separated in the massive crowds can be reunited without delay.
The authorities will utilize popular social media platforms like Facebook and X (formerly Twitter) alongside AI surveillance to assist in locating missing persons.
They will post updates on missing individuals in real time, streamlining the process of reuniting families among the sea of pilgrims.
This digital approach will provide immediate help and connect people quickly, offering peace of mind for visitors.
To further enhance this system, a dedicated ‘khoya paaya kendra’ (lost-and-found center) will go live from 1 December, offering a high-tech solution for missing persons.
The center will operate digitally, recording and uploading each missing person’s details into a central database immediately.
Once entered, the AI-powered cameras will begin scanning for the individual, working around the clock to locate them swiftly.
As part of the large-scale security upgrade, the authorities will deploy a total of 328 AI-enabled cameras throughout the Kumbh site.
The system has already undergone testing at four key locations, and its installation is now in the final stages.
These cameras will likely provide continuous surveillance, assist in crowd control, and help locate lost persons quickly and efficiently.
The integration of face recognition technology will also be a game-changer at the Maha Kumbh.
This system will allow authorities to identify missing individuals from the crowd of millions almost instantly.
The cameras will capture photographs and process them through advanced software to pinpoint individuals among the vast sea of attendees.
For families separated during the Mela, officials will follow a strict protocol to ensure safety and security.
They will not allow any adult to take custody of a child or woman without proper identity verification and proof of relationship.
This initiative is aimed at creating a safe, organized environment for the event while ensuring that all attendees, particularly vulnerable individuals, are protected.
These technological innovations, spearheaded by the Yogi Adityanath government, will not only enhance security but also make Maha Kumbh 2025 the most digitally advanced and secure event of its kind, offering a seamless and secure experience for millions of pilgrims from around the world.
