Ahmedabad Plane Crash: Three More Bodies Recovered From Wreckage, Toll Rises To 270

Ahmedabad Plane Crash: Rescue teams recovered three more bodies from the Air India crash site in Ahmedabad, pushing the death toll to 270. One body belonged to a young woman, believed to be a cabin crew member.

They found her trapped in the aircraft’s tail section, which had crashed into the BJ Medical College mess area. Crews used iron cutters to retrieve the remains. Two more charred bodies surfaced from rooftop debris nearby.

Officials suspect the young woman worked as a flight attendant. Forensic teams are confirming her identity through DNA testing and personal items found at the site. Authorities have informed the families of crew members and contacted them for verification.

Forensic teams struggle with DNA challenges

Rajnish Patel, Additional Superintendent of Civil Hospital, said teams have matched DNA samples of 31 victims so far. Families have received 12 of those bodies for final rites.

The crash’s intense heat damaged many biological samples. This has made DNA identification difficult. Over 36 forensic experts are working around the clock to complete the process. They use scientific methods to match victim samples with those from relatives.

Each case goes through multiple verification steps. Experts repeat tests if the DNA material is insufficient. Depending on the condition of the remains, the process can take up to 72 hours.

Families demand faster handover of bodies

Emotions ran high at Ahmedabad Civil Hospital. Grieving relatives demanded quicker handovers. Some urged authorities to bring in more medical staff from other districts or states.

Hospital staff explained the delays. “We understand your pain, but DNA matching is mandatory,” they said. “We can only release bodies after completing the forensic process. It takes time.”

In Rajkot, preparations are underway for former Gujarat Chief Minister Vijay Rupani’s funeral. His family awaits DNA confirmation. Union Minister Purushottam Rupala visited Rupani’s home again on Sunday to console the family.
