Security forces killed three Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) terrorists in a fierce encounter in the Keller area of Shopian, Jammu and Kashmir, on Tuesday, May 13.
Acting on specific intelligence provided by a Rashtriya Rifles unit, the Indian Army launched a search and destroy operation in the Shoekal Keller area.
According to the Army’s official statement, the terrorists opened heavy fire, prompting a fierce firefight.
The security forces neutralised all three militants in the exchange.
“Operation is in progress,” the Army confirmed.
Inspector General of Police (IGP), Kashmir Zone, VK Birdi, confirmed the operation’s success and stated, “We have killed three terrorists. We are yet to establish their identities, and we are still continuing the search operation.”
Taking to X (Formerly Twitter) handle, the Indian Army wrote, “OPERATION KELLER. On 13 May 2025, based on specific intelligence of a #RashtriyasRifles Unit, about presence of terrorists in general area Shoekal Keller, #Shopian, #IndianArmy launched a search and destroy Operation. During the operation, terrorists opened heavy fire and fierce firefight ensued, which resulted in elimination of three hardcore terrorists. Operation is in progress. ”
A top Indian government official stated that the government will treat any future act of terror on Indian soil as an act of war.
The statement signals a significant shift in India’s rules of engagement, drawing a firm red line for Pakistan-based terror groups.
“Any future act of terror in India will be considered an act of war against the country and will be responded to accordingly,” the official said.
In response to the fragile situation, security forces remain on high alert across Jammu and Kashmir. Authorities have advised residents living along the Line of Control (LoC) and International Border (IB) to delay their return home until the situation stabilises fully.
