After Ending Terror, We Will Reclaim What Has Been Lost: HM Amit Shah

Union Home Minister Amit Shah called Kashmir an inseparable part of India and its soul. Speaking on Thursday, he highlighted the government’s efforts to end terrorism and reclaim what has been lost, a veiled reference to the territory occupied by Pakistan and the cultural glory of the region.

Shah was addressing the launch of Jammu Kashmir and Ladakh: Through the Ages – A Visual Narrative of Continuities & Linkages. The book, edited by historian Raghuvendra Tanwar, narrates the 3,000-year history of Jammu, Kashmir, and Ladakh. It emphasizes their strong cultural and historical ties with India.

Shah said the abrogation of Article 370 in 2019 was a turning point. He described the provision as temporary and disconnected from the Constitution’s core.

He credited Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s leadership for its removal, stating, “It ended a tainted chapter in history.” According to Shah, this move ushered in development and progress for the region.

The Home Minister also highlighted the government’s success in combating terrorism. He said 2024 witnessed no stone-pelting incidents. Additionally, over 25,000 representatives were elected to Panchayati Raj institutions, strengthening grassroots democracy. Recent elections saw the highest voter turnout in 33 years.

Kashmir’s Cultural Heritage Highlighted

Shah praised the book’s detailed presentation of Kashmir’s rich heritage. It showcases ancient temples, Sanskrit texts, and the Dogra dynasty’s contributions. It also traces Buddhism’s spread from Kashmir to Western Asia.

The book emphasizes Kashmir’s role in Indian civilization while documenting past mistakes and their corrections. Shah criticized narrow historical perspectives, urging historians to embrace broader views rooted in culture and language.

Published in Hindi and English, the book appeals to scholars and general readers, preserving Kashmir’s cultural heritage.
