Acharya Pramod Krishnam Criticizes IIT Baba’s Popularity & Media Attention

Acharya Pramod Krishnam, known for his leadership of the Kaliki Peeth and former involvement in Congress, has publicly criticized the figure of IIT Baba (Abhay Singh), calling him a ‘joker’ and a ‘badmaash’.

In a strong statement, Krishnam expressed disbelief at the media’s fascination with figures like IIT Baba, who he believes misrepresent the true essence of spirituality.

He argued that the media glorifies such individuals, who engage in antics and absurdity, which he believes is misplaced and goes against the values of Sanatan Dharma, a tradition that upholds seriousness, dignity, and spiritual discipline.

From Aerospace Engineer To Self-Proclaimed Guru

Abhay Singh, also known as IIT Baba, first garnered attention when he left a promising career in aerospace engineering after studying at IIT Bombay to embrace a life of spirituality.

His drastic career change from a successful engineer to a self-styled spiritual leader has sparked both admiration and controversy.

Over time, his popularity surged, largely driven by social media, where he gained a substantial following for his unconventional and sometimes controversial teachings.

Many of his followers view him as a modern-day guru who provides alternative insights into life and spirituality.

However, Acharya Pramod Krishnam, along with other critics, has pointed out the problematic nature of such figures in the spiritual world.

According to Krishnam, just because a person gains a large following, it does not mean that they possess genuine spiritual wisdom.

He cited that even ‘madmen’ can have followers, but that does not make them deserving of spiritual reverence.

Media’s Role In Promoting Controversial Figures

Acharya Pramod Krishnam also questioned why the media continues to give such individuals prominence, which, in his view, further perpetuates foolishness and charlatanism.

Krishnam emphasized that the true essence of Sanatan Dharma does not allow for such absurdity and theatrical behavior, which he believes tarnishes the sacredness of spiritual practice.

He lamented that people often get caught up in sensational figures without understanding the deeper, authentic teachings that Sanatan Dharma offers.

IIT Baba’s Legal Troubles & Public Controversies

The controversy surrounding IIT Baba deepened when, on March 3, 2025, Jaipur Police filed an FIR against him for illegal drug possession.

Police allegedly found marijuana in his possession, which led to charges under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act (NDPS).

Following this, IIT Baba posted a video on social media, accusing the police of harassment and even threatening to take his life.

This incident has only fueled the ongoing debate about the legitimacy of IIT Baba’s self-proclaimed spiritual status.

Critics argue that his actions undermine his credibility, while his followers continue to defend him, claiming that they unjustly target him.

This legal case against IIT Baba adds to the growing list of controversies surrounding him, further intensifying the criticism from figures like Acharya Pramod Krishnam.

IIT Baba’s journey, from a high-flying career to a self-proclaimed spiritual guru, raises critical questions about the authenticity of modern spiritual leaders.

Figures like Acharya Pramod Krishnam, who adhere to the principles of Sanatan Dharma, stress the importance of upholding the sacredness of spiritual teachings and warn against the growing trend of media sensationalism surrounding self-styled gurus.

While IIT Baba’s popularity may continue to rise due to his unconventional approach and social media presence, leaders like Acharya Krishnam serve as a reminder of the values and traditions that should guide true spiritual practice.

As the controversy surrounding IIT Baba unfolds, it raises larger questions about the authenticity of modern spiritual movements and the role of media in shaping public perception of such figures.
