Accidental Explosion At Srinagar Police Station Sparks Panic Across City

A powerful accidental blast inside Srinagar’s Nowgam Police Station on Saturday sent shockwaves across the surrounding areas, with several injuries reported and emergency services rushing to the scene. Authorities have ruled out any terror-related involvement in the incident.

The explosion occurred while a police team was reportedly handling and sampling ammonium nitrate recovered from a white-collar interstate terror module recently busted in Faridabad.

The impact was so intense that nearby buildings shook, and glass windows shattered across the vicinity.

Residents in neighbourhoods located 5 to 10 kilometres away described hearing a loud bang, prompting immediate panic and confusion. Officials have yet to issue a formal statement on the extent of damage or the precise cause of the incident.

According to senior officials, nine police personnel sustained injuries while working with the recovered explosive material. The scale of the blast caused several vehicles parked inside the police station premises to catch fire.

Fire tenders promptly reached the site and worked to douse the flames, while ambulances ferried the injured officers to the hospital for urgent medical attention. Authorities continue to assess the structural damage inside the police complex.

Links to Faridabad Terror Module Recovery

Jammu & Kashmir Police and Haryana Police seized 2,900 kg of ammonium nitrate during a joint operation in Faridabad, and this recovery links directly to the explosion.

The crackdown on the terror module had led to the arrest of Dr Adil Rather and Dr Muzammil Ganaie.

Dr Umar Nabi, a third accomplice, initially evaded arrest, but a car blast near the Red Fort later killed him and caused multiple civilian casualties and injuries.

Investigators also arrested Shaheen Shahid, a doctor from Lucknow, after they found an assault rifle in her vehicle. They also apprehended two overground workers of the Jaish-e-Mohammad (JeM) organisation, further uncovering the network’s operations.

As officials continue to investigate Saturday’s accidental blast, the incident has once again highlighted the risks associated with handling large quantities of seized explosive material. Authorities are expected to release a detailed report once the assessment is complete.
