ABVP’s Yash Dabas Wins DUSU Presidency As Student Outfit Secures Three Of Four Posts

Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad candidate Yash Dabas was elected Delhi University Students’ Union president on Saturday. ABVP secured three of the four central posts in the 2026 DUSU elections.

Dabas defeated Congress-backed National Students’ Union of India candidate Vijay Shankar Meena by 2,053 votes. Dabas polled 24,576 votes, while Meena secured 22,523.

Independent candidate Deepanshu Shokeen won the vice-president’s post. ABVP’s Riya Chhawadi became secretary, while Lakshyaraj Singh secured the joint secretary position.

“This victory is for harmony, patriotism and organisational strength. Students from PU to DU supported and voted for us,” Dabas said.

BJP leaders welcomed the ABVP’s performance and described it as a message from young voters.

One BJP leader claimed the result showed that Delhi University students related to growth and nationalism.

Another criticised Congress and NSUI, saying the youth had rejected what he described as ‘lies’ and ‘Congress-style politics’.

Polling on Friday recorded a 40.46 per cent turnout across 52 centres. The figure was higher than last year’s 39.5 per cent and the highest in three years.

The election took place in two phases, from 8.30 AM to 1 PM and 3 pm to 7.30 PM.

ABVP candidates had earlier won key posts at Aditi Mahavidyalaya, Sri Aurobindo College, Dr BR Ambedkar College, Bharati College and Shivaji College.

At Ramjas College, the outfit won President, Secretary, Central Councillor and Internal Complaints Committee positions.

Delhi University has 91 colleges, but 52 colleges and faculties participate directly in DUSU elections. St Stephen’s College, Lady Shri Ram College and Jesus and Mary College do not participate.

The Delhi High Court barred victory processions and directed police to prevent them on roads, in hostels and college premises.
