AAPda Government Halted Facilities For Lakhs Of Delhiites, Says PM Modi

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday strongly criticised the previous Aam Aadmi Party government in Delhi, accusing it of stalling important development initiatives meant for residents of the capital.

He contrasted the earlier administration with the current government led by Chief Minister Rekha Gupta, saying several new projects aimed at improving infrastructure are now moving forward in the city.

During his visit to New Delhi, the Prime Minister also launched and inaugurated a series of development works valued at more than Rs 33,500 crore.

Speaking at a large gathering at a DDA Ground in Burari, the Prime Minister stated, “We are gathered here to provide a new pace to Delhi’s development journey. We have inaugurated and laid foundation stones for several development projects worth Rs 33,500 crore. From expansion of the metro connectivity to residential spaces for several government employees, facilities are being expanded in the national capital.”

At the same programme, PM Modi also distributed cards to beneficiaries of the Ayushman Bharat health scheme and the PM SVANidhi programme.

“A year ago, you all elected the BJP’s double-engine government with all your trust, and now, the results of it are already showing here. I congratulate everyone on these developmental projects,” the Prime Minister asserted.

Marking International Women’s Day, the Prime Minister noted, “India is writing a new chapter of women’s empowerment. Under the successful leadership of CM Rekha Gupta, the capital continues to develop. Be it politics, administration, science, sports, or social initiatives, India’s Nari Shakti is moving forward in every direction with new energy.”

“When anyone thinks about the great democracy of India, a picture of Delhi always comes to their mind. Delhi is not only the country’s capital but also India’s identity, a symbol of India’s energy. That is why, Delhi’s development is not the development of one city but also linked to the image of the entire nation,” he further highlighted.

The Prime Minister remarked, “The more modern, well-connected Delhi is, the more effectively India will showcase its confidence. That is why I am happy that today, our Delhi is moving forward, enriched with facilities and infrastructure.”

Recalling earlier conditions in the city, the Prime Minister said, “There was a time when only the bad things about Delhi dominated discussions. It used to take hours to reach one part of the city from another. People used to waste their time at bus stands waiting for buses and autos. However, now the time is changing.”

He also referred to the recently launched Namo Bharat train service that links Delhi with Meerut in western Uttar Pradesh.

During the event, the Prime Minister inaugurated and laid foundation stones for Delhi Metro projects valued at about Rs 18,300 crore. He also opened two new corridors under the Delhi Metro network.

These include the Majlis Park–Maujpur Babarpur corridor on the Pink Line. It spans around 12.3 km. The Deepali Chowk–Majlis Park corridor on the Magenta Line will cover nearly 9.9 km.

The new routes will likely improve connectivity for several neighbourhoods such as Burari, Jagatpur-Wazirabad, Khajuri Khas, Bhajanpura, Yamuna Vihar, Madhuban Chowk, Haiderpur Badli Mor, Bhalaswa and Majlis Park.

PM Modi said Delhi’s metro connectivity scale remains unmatched among major cities worldwide. He added that the projects launched will greatly assist residents of the national capital, particularly those living in East and North-East Delhi, by making daily travel easier.

The Prime Minister also laid the foundation stone for three additional metro corridors under Phase V-A, which together will cover around 16.10 km. These routes will connect RK Ashram Marg to Indraprastha, Aerocity to Indira Gandhi Airport Terminal-1, and Tughlakabad to Kalindi Kunj.

According to officials, these corridors will link several key destinations in the city. They will also improve transport access for people travelling between Noida, South Delhi and the airport.

The Prime Minister also criticised the former AAP government, saying, “These development projects are also a testament to the fact of how important it was for Delhi to get free from the ‘AAPda’. If the AAPda government were not here, then this Metro Phase-4 project would have been completed a long time ago. However, for the political benefit, these AAPda people halted the facilities for the lakhs of Delhiites.”

He said the situation has changed following the formation of the BJP government. He cited new development initiatives. These include the introduction of additional DTC, DEVI and electric buses under the administration led by Rekha Gupta.

The Prime Minister also pointed to the construction of the peripheral expressway. He said it has reduced traffic entering the capital by allowing millions of vehicles to bypass the city. He added that major projects have also begun to clean the Yamuna River.

Continuing his criticism of the previous administration, the Prime Minister said, “The AAPda government ignored the problems of Delhiites. It had also ruined the health sector. We also wrote to them, insisting on the implementation of the Ayushman Scheme. However, the AAPda government never cared about the poor.”

“In the past year alone, several Ayushman Arogya Mandirs have been established here. Now, the Ayushman scheme is also implemented here, and a lot of people are getting the benefits. The difference is clear. The AAPda focused on ‘less work, more excuses’ (Kaam kam, bahane jyada). Now the development model of Delhi is ‘stop the excuses, start the work’ (bahane band, kaam shuru’,” he further noted.

Earlier in the day, the Prime Minister visited the General Pool Residential Accommodation Redevelopment Plan site at Sarojini Nagar in New Delhi. The project forms part of the GPRA redevelopment initiative. He handed over keys to Type-5 housing units to female allottees.

The redevelopment work covers locations including Sarojini Nagar, Netaji Nagar, Kasturba Nagar and Sriniwaspuri. It forms part of a wider effort to modernise GPRA colonies.

The plan also aims to provide improved infrastructure for government staff and administrative offices.

Projects under the GPRA redevelopment programme carry a value of around Rs 15,200 crore. They use a self-sustaining financial framework designed to avoid additional pressure on public funds.

Under this approach, a limited portion of the project land will serve commercial and residential use. It will generate revenue to support the overall redevelopment.

Funds raised through this method support the construction of modern government housing. They also improve the supporting infrastructure and help create public amenities.

Once completed, the redevelopment programme will deliver more than 9,350 modern flats for government employees. It will also create nearly 48 lakh square feet of office space.

The project will likely improve administrative efficiency and provide opportunities for revenue generation.
