Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann on Monday strongly opposed the Waqf Amendment Bill, introduced by the BJP-led NDA government.
He vowed to resist it both in Parliament and the Vidhan Sabha to safeguard the interests of the Muslim community.
Interacting with the media after Eid prayers, CM Mann said the Muslim community was vehemently opposing the Bill, and the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) stood firmly with them.
He reiterated the Punjab government’s commitment to the welfare of all communities.
Addressing another issue, CM Mann said the AAP government is making efforts to conserve groundwater.
Since taking charge, the government has revived 15,947 watercourses, ensuring that canal water reaches farmers even in remote villages.
This initiative helps save groundwater while meeting irrigation needs.
CM Mann welcomed the public support for the state’s anti-drug campaign, ‘Yudh Nasheyan Virudh’. He emphasized that active public participation is crucial to making Punjab drug-free.
The government remains committed to eradicating drug abuse with the cooperation of the people.
Highlighting another key initiative, CM Mann said the government is giving a complete facelift to Punjab’s roads. He stressed that better roads facilitate smoother transportation of goods and services, boosting the state’s economy.
In a major Eid announcement, CM Mann allocated ₹200 crore for the development of Malerkotla, Punjab’s only Muslim-majority town.
He also extended Eid greetings, calling the festival a symbol of peace, brotherhood, and amity.
CM Mann expressed hope that Eid would strengthen communal harmony and reaffirm values of charity and empathy.
He said Punjab’s culture has always promoted unity and shared human values, as taught by great gurus and saints.
