The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) revealed its roster of eight Lok Sabha candidates in Punjab on Thursday. Notably, Punjab Minister Meet Hayer has been nominated to contest from the Sangrur constituency, which was previously represented by the current Chief Minister, Bhagwant Mann.
The remaining seven candidates announced are Kuldeep Singh Dhaliwal for Amritsar, Laljit Singh Bhullar for Khadoor Sahib, Sushil Kumar Rinky for Jalandhar, Gurpreet Singh SP for Fatehgarh Sahib, Karamjeet Anmol for Faridkot, Gurmeet Singh Khudian for Bathinda, and Dr. Balbir Singh for Patiala.
“I am deeply grateful to my idol and political guru Arvind Kejriwal ji and honourable CM Bhagwant Mann ji for entrusting me with the task of contesting in the Lok Sabha election from Patiala,” said Dr Balbir Singh after the party declared him a candidate from Patiala Lok Sabha seat. He further added, “As a dedicated soldier of the party, it’s a privilege and an honour to carry the flag of the struggle for justice and liberty during these trying times for the country.” Assuring the party leadership and the people of Patiala, he asserted that he wouldn’t leave any stone unturned in the service of the country, state, & party.
Gurpreet Singh GP, a former MLA from Bassi Pathana under the Congress banner, recently switched allegiance to the AAP.
Following a cabinet reshuffle in November, Meet Hayer, who previously held four departments including the crucial mines and geology portfolio, faced a reduction in responsibilities. Currently, he retains control over the sports and youth services department.
Despite the AAP and Congress reaching a seat-sharing arrangement in various states as part of the INDIA bloc, indications suggest they will compete against each other in Punjab.
