A Child Never Made It Home: Speeding Car Crushes Lives Near Lucknow Temple

A shocking road accident in Lucknow left a six-year-old boy dead and five other people injured after a speeding vehicle driven by a Class 12 student hit pedestrians near the Hanuman temple in Banthra.

The incident has sparked widespread concern over road safety.

The accident occurred on Thursday evening in front of the Hanuman temple at Banthra, Kanpur Road. A speeding Swift car struck multiple pedestrians, leaving five seriously injured.

Six-year-old Dikshant Patel later succumbed to his injuries despite medical attention. Other victims include 12-year-old Arman, Awadh Bihari (42), Sadhana Verma (35), Meena Devi (60), and Dikshant Patel. All were rushed to nearby hospitals, where doctors treated them for critical injuries.

Police identified the driver as Gaurav, a resident of Sohramau in Unnao’s Ballukheda area. Although he is a Class 12 student, officials confirmed he is legally an adult.

Gaurav has been taken into custody. Preliminary investigations suggest the accident occurred while he was returning from a farewell party.

Reports indicate that the driver fled the scene immediately after the collision and allegedly dropped a female passenger at an undisclosed location before leaving. The car involved carried a Kanpur registration plate.

Auto driver Awadh Bihari also recounted the terrifying moments of the crash, explaining that he suffered severe head injuries. His son Nitin confirmed that police were notified at around 6 PM.

Dr Meera Arya said the child was in critical condition and doctors immediately shifted him to specialised medical care.

The incident has drawn comparisons with the recent Lamborghini crash in Kanpur, where the accused secured bail within hours.

The event has intensified discussions about stricter road safety enforcement in Uttar Pradesh and the urgent need for responsible driving. This tragedy highlights the importance of vigilant traffic regulations and public awareness to prevent similar accidents in the future.
