80th Independence Day: PM Modi’s 76-Minute Speech, Key Announcements And Highlights

Prime Minister Narendra Modi marked India’s 80th Independence Day with a 76-minute address from the Red Fort, his third-shortest speech at the venue. His 2022 address lasted 74 minutes, while his 2014 speech ran for 65 minutes.

PM Modi hoisted the national flag for the 13th time, followed by the National Anthem and a 21-gun salute.

For the first time since Independence, the full rendition of Vande Mataram echoed at the Red Fort. PM Modi described the moment as historic.

The Prime Minister warned against ‘Dimagi Naxalism’ and forces that seek to misguide young people and encourage anarchy. He said armed Naxalism had weakened considerably but called for continued vigilance.

A key announcement focused on youth. The government will train 10 million young people in artificial intelligence skills over the next year.

Prime Minister Modi announced free online coaching for competitive examinations for youth from poor and middle-class families. He further expressed confidence that India would become a developed nation by 2047. He described Viksit Bharat as a ‘big dream’ that widens the country’s vision.

PM Modi urged citizens to pursue ambitious goals with determination and collective strength.

Reflecting on the past 12 years, Prime Minister Modi highlighted India’s shift from the ‘Fragile Five’ to one of the fastest-growing major economies.

Defence production rose nearly fourfold, electronics manufacturing nearly sevenfold and modern railway coach production 21-fold.

Mobile phone production increased 33-fold, while Khadi and village industries expanded nearly fivefold.

Internet users nearly quadrupled, patent grants rose fourfold and digital transactions surged 100-fold.

The Prime Minister cited faster delivery of tap-water connections, gas connections, toilets and housing.

Governance reforms removed thousands of compliance requirements and repealed hundreds of outdated laws.

PM Modi urged citizens to embrace Make in India, Swadeshi and Vocal for Local. He further expressed concern for families affected by recent floods.

The Prime Minister said India’s next phase would rest on youth empowerment, technological preparedness, self-reliance and national unity.
