73-Year-Old Delhi Man Arrested After Car Drags Motorcycle For Nearly 500 Metres

A 73-year-old man was arrested in southwest Delhi after his car hit a motorcycle and dragged it for nearly 500 metres in R K Puram.

The incident occurred late Thursday night. A video of the collision has since surfaced online.

The footage shows the car travelling along a tree-lined road with the motorcycle trapped beneath it.

Sparks fly as the vehicle continues moving. A scooter rider follows the car and repeatedly asks the driver to stop.

The car eventually halts. A woman riding pillion on the scooter records the confrontation and asks the driver to step outside.

The driver, identified as Venu Gopal, a Vasant Kunj resident, folds his hands in an apparent apology.

A man grabs him by the collar and tries to pull him from the vehicle. Several people then gather around the car. The woman is seen slapping Gopal during the confrontation.

The motorcycle rider, identified as Tapas, questions Gopal over the incident. “If it was a mistake, you could have stopped. I could have died,” he tells him.

Delhi Police said Gopal has been arrested and the car impounded for investigation. A preliminary enquiry found that Tapas was sitting on a parked vehicle beside the road when the blue car struck his motorcycle.

The impact threw Tapas from the bike. The car then continued for around 500 metres with the motorcycle underneath.

Police said Gopal underwent a medical examination after the incident. The examination did not indicate alcohol consumption at the time, officials said.

Investigators are examining the exact sequence of events and circumstances behind the collision. The case comes soon after a Gurugram biker incident that led to another car driver’s arrest.
