A 5.3 magnitude earthquake struck the Chamba region of Himachal Pradesh on Thursday, as reported by PTI. According to the National Center for Seismology’s statement on X, the earthquake occurred at 21:34:32 IST with coordinates Lat: 33.09 & Long: 76.59, at a depth of 10 km.
Meteorological department officials in Shimla informed PTI that the tremors, lasting for a few seconds, did not cause any loss of life or property damage. The earthquake, originating at a depth of 10 km, was felt across North India, including Chandigarh, Punjab, and parts of Haryana.

Interestingly, on this day in 1905, the Kangra district in Himachal Pradesh experienced a massive 8-magnitude earthquake, resulting in widespread casualties and destruction. According to records from the National Center for Seismology (NCS), over 20,000 fatalities occurred in the Western Himalayas region as a consequence of this disaster.
