48 Trekkers Evacuated From Uttarakhand’s Uttarkashi As Heavy Rains Disrupt Operations

Rescue teams have safely evacuated 48 trekkers and expedition members stranded at the Kalindi Pass Base and Auden’s Col Base in Uttarakhand’s Uttarkashi district.

On Tuesday morning, authorities airlifted eight trekkers and porters stranded along the Kalindi trek to Harsil. Their evacuation completed the rescue operation for those stranded along that stretch.

A day earlier, teams rescued 11 trekkers and porters from the Kalindi Pass area and flew them to Harsil. The latest evacuation took the total number rescued from the Kalindi route to 19.

Officials said medical teams examined all those rescued and found them in good health. They said evacuation efforts for others from the Kalindi Pass area were underway during the operation.

In a separate operation on Monday, authorities successfully evacuated all 29 trekkers stranded around Auden’s Col by helicopter.

The District Disaster Management Authority (DDMA), Uttarkashi, said teams conducted the rescue operation at the Harsil helipad in a coordinated and organised manner.

“At the Harshil helipad, in the presence of Additional District Magistrate Mukta Mishra, all personnel involved in the rescue operation, including the helicopter pilot, coordinated and planned thoroughly, and the rescue operation was launched in an organised and safe manner. All teams are working in coordination and according to the established plan,” DDMA Uttarkashi said.

Rescue teams faced difficult weather conditions as continuous rainfall hit Uttarakhand since Friday.

Heavy rain disrupted road connectivity at several locations and triggered landslides, complicating movement and rescue efforts.

The adverse weather disrupted travel and pilgrimage activities across parts of the state.

Uttarakhand Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami visited the Disaster Control Room on Monday and reviewed rescue operations. He assessed administrative measures to evacuate stranded people.

The Char Dham Yatra resumed on Monday after weather conditions improved.
