4 Days After Odisha Train Tragedy, Coromandel Express Passes Through Accident Spot

Four days after the Shalimar-Chennai Coromandel Express was involved in the most horrifying triple train accident in Odisha’s Balasore district, the down train from Chennai crossed the accident site at 30kmph on Tuesday.

As the train passed through, a sizeable number of onlookers witnessed the locomotive chug through the distance.

According to the officials, over 70 trains including Vande Bharat Express have so far crossed through Bahanaga Bazar Station since both the up and down lines were restored on Sunday night.

The Odisha train tragedy took almost 278 lives and injured over 1200 people, were the Howrah-Chennai Coromandel Express, Bengaluru-Howrah Express and a stationary goods train.

CBI steps into the Odisha train tragedy

Moreover, the CBI (Central Investigation Bureau) has taken over the Balasore GRP case No. 64 registered by Odisha Police.

The CBI probe team arrived at the accident spot today’s morning and filed a case under various sections of the IPC (Indian Penal Code).

The Odisha police have filed a case with charges of “causing death by negligence and endangering life” in the triple train accident.

The involvement of the CBI has played a significant role as officials say only a detailed probe by a top agency can establish criminal tampering, if any, with the point machine or the electronic interlocking system, or if the train changed tracks due to reconfiguration or a signalling error.
