3 Delhi Water Plants Facing Shutdown Due To BJP-Ruled Haryana’s Actions: CM Atishi

On Monday, Delhi Chief Minister Atishi leveled serious allegations against the BJP-led Haryana government, accusing it of releasing contaminated water into the Yamuna River.

CM Atishi claimed this was part of a deliberate ‘conspiracy’ to disrupt the water supply to Delhi.

At a press conference, CM Atishi revealed that three major water treatment plants in the capital are on the verge of shutting down due to the supply of highly polluted water from the Wazirabad barrage, and she blamed the Haryana government for this crisis.

The Delhi CM criticized the BJP, claiming the party was heading for its biggest defeat in the 2025 Assembly elections and was using such shameful tactics to deny the city’s residents clean water.

“There are 8 water treatment plants in the capital and all of them use water from Yamuna River. Three water treatment plants — Wazirabad, Chandrawal and Okhla plants operate on water received from Wazirabad barrage. The BJP-ruled Haryana government, in an attempt to make the water treatment plants defunct, has started releasing industrial waste into the Yamuna River,” CM Atishi stated.

She further added, “Pollution has increased so much that three treatment plants are on the brink of closure.”

CM Atishi Accuses Drain DD8 Of Discharging High Ammonia Water

CM Atishi identified drain DD8 near Pyaau Manihari, accusing it of discharging water with high ammonia levels into the Yamuna River.

Sharing details about the ammonia levels, the Delhi CM noted, “Usually Ammonia level in water is 1-2 ppm. As we head towards elections, its level has increased drastically. It was 3.3 ppm on January 14, 4.6 ppm on January 18, 6.4 ppm on January 24 and 7.2 ppm on January 26.”

“The BJP government is releasing this toxic water with an ulterior motive. It is so rattled by the imminent defeat in upcoming elections that it is trying to stop Delhi’s water supply. There can’t be a more despicable act than this,” she added.

The Chief Minister warned that several areas in Delhi, including Karol Bagh, Jhandewalan, Patel Nagar, Wazirpur, Punjabi Bagh, Model Town, Kingsway Camp, Kalkaji, Batla House, and Kalindi Kunj, would face water shortages in the coming days.

CM Atishi also stated that her party would approach the Election Commission, accusing the BJP of trying to manipulate the elections by halting Delhi’s water supply.

Her direct allegations against the BJP and the Haryana government likely to prompt strong responses and rebuttals from them.
