2014–26 To Be Remembered As Defining Era For Internal Security, Says HM Shah

Delhi Police observed its 79th Raising Day in the national Capital with a ceremonial parade highlighting its specialised wings, including SWAT units, the dog squad, motorcycle patrol teams, and PCR vehicles. The formations demonstrated precision and preparedness during the event.

Union Home Minister Amit Shah joined the ceremony at the Delhi Police Headquarters and conferred honorary medals on distinguished personnel.

He praised the force, “Delhi Police has left no stone unturned to uplift their motto of ‘Peace, Service, Justice’. Delhi Police’s responsibility, performance and dedication, being a security force for the national Capital, is very significant. This area of Delhi is not just a city but the heartbeat of the country and its democracy. And that is why, being a Capital, the security here should be the best.”

HM Shah announced that authorities had laid the foundation stone for the Special Cell’s Integrated Headquarters. The project is estimated to cost around Rs 370 crore.

He described the upcoming facility as one of the most advanced centres in the country. He said it would play a crucial role in combating terrorism and drug trafficking.

HM Shah also added, “The first phase of the Safe City Project has also been inaugurated. The modern Integrated Command Control Communication and Computer Centre (C4I), built at a cost of approximately Rs 857 crore, is being dedicated to the people of Delhi.”

Marked Improvement in Security Landscape

Reflecting on national progress since 2014 under Prime Minister Narendra Modi, HM Shah spoke about the government’s achievements in internal security. He said the years leading up to 2026 would be remembered in history. He stated that this period significantly transformed India’s internal security framework.

HM Shah recalled that the country had previously faced serious challenges. These included terrorism in Kashmir, unrest in the Northeast, and widespread Maoist violence across several states.

HM Shah said, “I am pleased to report that, following the abrogation of Article 370, we have succeeded in reducing incidents of violence in Kashmir, the Northeast, and Maoist-affected areas by approximately 80 per cent. The day is not far when these three regions will be completely free of violence.”

Speaking about the Northeast, he noted that more than 10,000 young people have abandoned militancy and rejoined mainstream society, while over 20 peace accords have paved the way for sustained stability.

In his concluding remarks, HM Shah applauded Delhi Police for its swift resolution of critical security cases and reaffirmed the government’s determination to modernise policing systems and reinforce the country’s internal security architecture.
