PM Narendra Modi on Thursday hailed the 11th anniversary of the Make in India initiative, calling it a transformative force that reshaped India’s economic landscape and entrepreneurial ecosystem.
Taking to social media, PM Modi wrote, “11 years ago on this day, the Make in India initiative was launched with a vision to add momentum to India’s growth and tap into our nation’s entrepreneurial potential. It is gladdening to see how #11YearsOfMakeInIndia has contributed to furthering economic strength and laying the foundation for Aatmanirbharta. It has encouraged innovation and job creation across sectors.”
The government launched the Make in India initiative on September 25, 2014, with an aim to facilitate investment, build world-class manufacturing infrastructure, and position India as a global manufacturing hub.
The programme focused on improving ease of doing business, skill development, and reducing bureaucratic hurdles.
Since its inception, the initiative has delivered significant results:
The Production Linked Incentive (PLI) scheme has emerged as a game-changer by driving investment and industrial growth. India’s manufacturing sector is now on track to achieve the $1 trillion milestone by FY26.
In August 2025, India’s Manufacturing PMI surged to 59.3, the strongest level in 17 years, underlining robust industrial expansion.
The recent GST reforms have further energised the Make in India movement. With taxes reduced to zero on essential goods and significant cuts on several other products, India has enhanced its global competitiveness.
