Is India At Risk From Ebola? Here’s What You Need To Know

Ebola virus is a life-threatening disease that spreads through human contact, such as through the blood or saliva of an infected person.

Scientists first identified the Ebola virus in Yambuku, a village in the Democratic Republic of the Congo near the Ebola River.

The virus has now spread across several countries, and authorities have detected new cases at an airport in France.

Still, in India, it’s not a threat right now because the Indian government has updated its public health policy for international passengers to submit their online health self-declaration. This form requires 21 days of travel and exposure history.

The Health Ministry of India has stated that if individuals develop symptoms such as fever, unexplained bleeding, or vomiting, they should call 1075 within 21 days of returning from the affected area.

The symptoms of the Ebola virus in the early dry stage are that your body temperature will rise suddenly, and you will experience severe headache, weakness, fatigue, malaise, muscle and joint pain, sore throat, and loss of appetite.

In the advanced wet stage, you will face nausea, vomiting, abdominal pain, severe watery diarrhoea, a diffuse red skin rash (mostly non-itchy and can peel), and red or bloodshot eyes.

In the late stage, this will cause confusion, delirium or decreased alertness, chest discomfort, difficulty breathing, multiple organ failure, and life-threatening shock.

Ebola virus is not similar to the flu or COVID-19, which can spread through the air, through human contact, and through sneezing.

Ebola virus spreads through blood and saliva of an affected or deceased person, or contaminated objects, such as from African fruit bats, butchering animals, or consuming wild animals.
