PIB Fact Check Exposes Fake Video Claiming Deadly Attack On Security Forces In Kishtwar

Social media platforms have recently seen the circulation of a video accompanied by claims that so-called ‘Kashmiri freedom fighters’ carried out coordinated attacks on Indian security force posts and convoys in Kishtwar district of Jammu and Kashmir.

The posts allege that more than ten soldiers were killed in the incident, triggering concern and confusion among users.

The Press Information Bureau’s Fact Check unit has categorically rejected the claim, labelling it as fake.

According to PIB, the video being shared does not depict any militant attack or violence against security forces. Instead, it is an old clip that has been misleadingly repackaged with false captions.

Origin of the Video Explained

PIB clarified that the video relates to an accidental fire and gas cylinder blast that occurred in Kishtwar in August 2025.

The incident resulted in injuries but had no connection whatsoever with militant activity or attacks on security personnel. Credible media reports from that period had clearly identified the incident as accidental in nature.

Authorities have urged citizens to remain vigilant and avoid falling for misleading or sensational claims circulated on social media.

PIB Fact Check reiterated the importance of verifying information through official sources before sharing such content. It stressed that this is especially crucial when the claims relate to national security and public order.

The government has once again reminded users that the spread of fake or unverified information can create unnecessary panic and harm social harmony.

Citizens are encouraged to rely on trusted news outlets and official fact-checking platforms to stay accurately informed.
