The Press Information Bureau (PIB), via its official X handle, has issued a strong clarification after a manipulated video falsely attributed a statement to Chief of Defence Staff (CDS) General Anil Chauhan.
In a tweet, PIB Fact Check firmly declared the video fake and posted, “A manipulated video is being shared online, falsely showing Chief of Defence Staff (CDS) General Anil Chauhan admitting 7 jet losses and saying India asked for ceasefire #PIBFactCheck: This is an AI-generated deepfake video CDS General Anil Chauhan has made no such statement Deepfakes are being used to mislead and spread disinformation -always cross-check with official sources.”
The viral video falsely claims that General Chauhan admitted to the loss of seven fighter jets and stated that India requested a ceasefire.
However, PIB Fact Check confirmed that AI generated the video and clarified that the CDS has made no such remarks.
In a public advisory, PIB warned that deepfake videos mislead citizens and spread disinformation. It urged people to always verify such claims with official government sources before believing or sharing them.
Furthermore, the bureau reminded citizens to remain cautious of digitally manipulated content, which often circulates during sensitive national events to create confusion and mistrust.
As part of its ongoing campaign against misinformation, PIB encouraged users to report such suspicious content to @PIBFactCheck on social media. It also highlighted the importance of verifying defence-related information exclusively through official channels to maintain public trust and national security awareness.
The government continues to urge citizens to practise digital vigilance and avoid amplifying unverified or misleading content online.
