PIB Fact Check Debunks Misleading Claim On Miranda House Hostel ‘LPG Crisis’

A video circulating online claimed that students at Miranda House were protesting against hostel authorities due to a food shortage caused by an LPG crisis amid the West Asia conflict. The claim quickly gained traction, raising concerns about fuel availability on campus.

Responding to the viral video, Press Information Bureau Fact Check stated that the claim is misleading.

Authorities confirmed that there is no LPG shortage at the college premises and dismissed reports suggesting a fuel crisis affecting hostel operations.

According to the official clarification, the hostel kitchen at Miranda House operates using a PNG (Piped Natural Gas) connection, ensuring an uninterrupted supply of fuel. This directly contradicts the claims made in the viral content regarding any LPG-related disruption.

The fact-check further revealed that the students’ protest was not linked to any fuel shortage. Instead, it was centred on concerns regarding the quality of food being served in the hostel mess.

Students raised issues about standards and demanded improvements in the meals provided.

The Press Information Bureau urged the public to verify information through official and credible sources before sharing it online. It emphasised the importance of responsible digital behaviour to prevent the spread of misinformation.

Authorities have also encouraged citizens to actively report misleading or manipulated content.

With misinformation spreading rapidly across digital platforms, official fact-checks play a crucial role in ensuring accurate public awareness.

Verifying claims before sharing remains essential to maintaining trust and preventing unnecessary panic.
