PIB Fact Check Debunks Deepfake Video Falsely Showing PM Modi Threatening Students

The Press Information Bureau (PIB) Fact Check has debunked a viral video that falsely portrays Prime Minister Narendra Modi threatening students participating in nationwide protests.

Officials confirmed that the clip is a digitally manipulated deepfake created by replacing the original audio. They urged citizens not to trust or circulate the misleading content.

The fabricated video falsely claims that the Prime Minister warned protesting students of strict action.

PIB Fact Check clarified that the speech never contained such remarks.

The agency confirmed that unidentified individuals altered the authentic recording with fabricated audio to spread misinformation.

The original video appeared on Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s official Instagram account in July 2026.

In the authentic address, the Prime Minister discussed the NEET-UG examination paper leak and outlined the Centre’s response. He announced comprehensive reforms to strengthen the examination system. He also revealed the formation of a high-level task force led by Nandan Nilekani to recommend structural improvements.

The address further promised stringent action against those responsible for examination paper leaks.

At no point did the Prime Minister threaten students or refer to ongoing protests.

PIB Fact Check stated that the viral clip forms part of a wider pattern of AI-generated misinformation designed to manipulate public opinion and spread false narratives.

The agency reiterated that official government announcements are released only through verified platforms and authentic communication channels.

Authorities advised the public to verify questionable content through official sources before sharing it. Citizens should rely on verified accounts, including PMOIndia, for authentic updates.

PIB also encouraged people to report suspicious or manipulated videos through its official fact-check channels to curb the spread of digital misinformation.
