A post circulating on X from a handle named ‘Proudindiannavi’ has sparked concern by sharing alarming claims about the situation in Manipur. The post alleges incidents of violence, abductions, and large-scale casualties, raising fears among users online.
The Press Information Bureau’s Fact Check unit has stepped in to counter these assertions.
According to a post by PIB Fact Check, the viral claims are not true and are being spread to create unnecessary panic among the public.
The agency highlighted that misinformation during sensitive situations can escalate fear and confusion, especially when shared widely on social media platforms.
The original viral post makes multiple serious allegations, including attacks on key government locations and the abduction of police personnel. It also claims significant loss of life within a short span of time.
These statements, presented without verified evidence, quickly gained traction and risked misleading a large audience.
PIB Fact Check reviewed the content and categorically labelled the claims as fake.
The agency emphasised that such posts are often designed to provoke emotional reactions and spread unrest.
In its advisory, PIB Fact Check warned users against trusting unverified social media posts, especially during sensitive situations like unrest in Manipur. It stressed the importance of relying on official and verified sources for accurate updates.
The agency also encouraged users to act responsibly by not forwarding or amplifying misleading content.
Fact-checking bodies continue to monitor such viral claims to prevent the spread of misinformation.
