A social media handle named ‘yojanaupdateindia’ has circulated an AI-generated video claiming that the central government will provide a 90 per cent subsidy on electric scooters.
According to the claim, this scheme would make electric scooters available for as little as Rs 2,000.
The Press Information Bureau (PIB), the government’s official fact-checking body, has categorically dismissed the claim as fake. It clarified that neither Prime Minister Narendra Modi nor the central government has made any such announcement regarding subsidies on electric scooters.
Authorities highlighted that the video making the rounds online has been created using artificial intelligence, making it appear authentic.
Such content is increasingly being used to spread misinformation and mislead the public.
The PIB emphasised that there is currently no scheme offering electric scooters at heavily subsidised rates of Rs 2,000.
Citizens have been advised not to rely on unverified social media posts for information regarding government initiatives.
For accurate details on government welfare schemes, individuals are encouraged to visit the official portal of the Government of India at myscheme.gov.in.

The incident highlights the growing threat of misinformation, particularly with the misuse of AI-generated content.
Authorities continue to urge people to remain cautious and verify claims before sharing them further.
The PIB has reiterated its advisory for the public to cross-check viral claims with credible sources.
Staying informed through official channels can help prevent the spread of false information and ensure awareness of genuine government initiatives.
