PIB Debunks Viral AI Video Claiming PM Modi Announced Free ACs For Aadhaar Holders

The Press Information Bureau (PIB) Fact Check unit has dismissed a viral video falsely claiming that Prime Minister Narendra Modi announced free air conditioners for every Aadhaar card holder.

The government’s official fact-checking agency clarified that the Centre has not made any such announcement. It identified the circulating clip as AI-generated misinformation designed to mislead the public and spread false claims online.

The manipulated video, which runs for approximately 11 seconds, shows PM Modi speaking from a podium while dramatic Hindi text banners appear on the screen.

The visuals claim that every Aadhaar cardholder will receive one free air conditioner under a government scheme.

The clip also displays images of air-conditioning units from well-known brands, including LG and Gree, to make the content appear credible.

A prominent red ‘fake’  stamp appears on the video as part of the PIB Fact Check alert, warning users against believing the claim.

PIB Fact Check urged citizens to remain vigilant and verify welfare schemes only through official government platforms before sharing any information online.

The agency cautioned that artificial intelligence tools can now create highly convincing yet deceptive content. Such material can easily mislead viewers and fuel misinformation across social media platforms.

Officials advised users to cross-check government announcements through authorised sources and report suspicious content to PIB Fact Check. They stressed that public awareness plays a vital role in preventing the spread of fraudulent AI-generated videos. They also emphasised the importance of timely verification to protect the authenticity of official information.

The clarification forms part of ongoing efforts to counter digital misinformation and promote responsible information sharing.
