The Telecom Regulatory Authority of India’s (TRAI) official DND (Do Not Disturb) app is now gaining renewed attention as the Press Information Bureau (PIB) confirmed that it is indeed a genuine and effective tool for combating unwanted telemarketing calls and messages.
The clarification comes amid widespread circulation of a message reportedly received from ‘AD-TRAIND-G’ on smartphones, which states: “Tired of Spam calls? Report and help control spam. It is easy and quick to report, block or allow promotional calls. Install TRAI DND App on your phone. Available on Google Play/App Store.”
The PIB’s fact-check arm verified that this message is authentic, and that the TRAI DND app is a reliable platform that empowers users to manage Unsolicited Commercial Communication (UCC) on their devices.
Through the app, users can report spam messages and calls directly to TRAI, block telemarketers, and even allow specific promotional content if desired.
TRAI developed the DND app to empower mobile users with greater control over who can contact them.
Once users register their mobile numbers under the DND registry through the app, the system actively blocks unsolicited commercial calls and texts.
In addition, users can file direct complaints against telemarketers who violate these settings.
The move reflects the government’s larger commitment to digital rights and consumer protection in the telecom space.
By offering tools like the DND app, authorities aim to reduce the daily nuisance faced by millions of mobile users due to relentless spam.
The TRAI DND app is available for free download on both Android (Google Play) and iOS (App Store) platforms.
The user interface is designed for simplicity, allowing individuals to register their preferences, lodge complaints, and monitor spam activity with just a few taps.
The Ministry of Information and Broadcasting, through PIB, has also encouraged citizens to make full use of the app to enhance their mobile privacy and communication experience.
The official statement urged people to take proactive steps to curb spam, noting that the app is part of India’s broader digital empowerment initiatives.
As spam communication becomes increasingly sophisticated, tools like the TRAI DND app play a vital role in safeguarding digital interactions and ensuring a hassle-free telecom environment for all citizens.
