The Government of India has rejected a widely circulated claim suggesting that it plans to issue gold bonds to temples in exchange for their gold reserves. Authorities have confirmed that no such proposal exists.
Press Information Bureau (PIB) Fact Check has categorically stated that the viral claim is false. The agency clarified that the government has not made any decision regarding such a scheme involving temple gold.
The claim, which gained traction across social media platforms, alleged that temples would be asked to deposit their gold reserves in return for government-issued bonds.
Officials, however, have urged the public not to believe or share such misleading information.
Authorities have advised citizens to verify information through official channels before accepting or forwarding it.
PIB Fact Check emphasised the importance of relying on credible and verified sources to avoid falling victim to misinformation.
The incident highlights the growing need for vigilance against fake news, especially when it concerns sensitive topics such as religious institutions and government policies.
Fact-checking agencies continue to play a crucial role in countering misinformation and ensuring accurate public awareness.
