The government has flagged a surge in fraudulent SMSes, phone calls and WhatsApp messages that falsely warn citizens about KYC expiry, SIM card deactivation, gas or electricity connection suspension, or involve impersonation of government officials.
According to a post shared by PIB Fact Check on X, these messages are designed to trick people into sharing personal information or making payments, leading to financial fraud.
PIB Fact Check clarified that such messages and calls are fraudulent and not issued by any government department. Citizens have been advised to stay alert and avoid responding to these communications.
To counter such scams, the government has directed people to report suspicious messages and calls through the Chakshu facility, available on the Sanchar Saathi portal. The Chakshu platform allows users to report suspected fraud related to telecom services and digital impersonation, helping authorities take action against offenders.
The government has urged citizens to:
-Do not share personal or financial details in response to unsolicited calls or messages
-Avoid clicking on suspicious links
-Report suspected fraud immediately using the Chakshu facility

Authorities say timely reporting can help curb the growing menace of digital fraud and protect other users from falling victim.
