Fake SBI YONO Message Alert: Press Information Bureau Debunks Aadhaar Update Scam

A widely shared message on social media has falsely claimed that the SBI YONO will be blocked if users fail to update their Aadhaar details. The message also instructs users to download and install an APK file to complete the update process.

The Press Information Bureau has categorically labelled this claim as fake under its fact-check initiative, warning citizens not to fall for such misinformation.

Authorities have strongly advised users not to download APK files from unknown or unverified sources, as these files can compromise personal and financial data.

Fraudsters often design such messages to trick users into revealing sensitive information, including banking credentials and Aadhaar details.

The State Bank of India has also clarified that it never asks customers to share confidential information or install third-party applications for account updates.

Cyber fraudsters frequently use impersonation tactics, posing as trusted institutions to deceive users. These scams may appear convincing, often carrying official logos or language to gain credibility.

Authorities urge users to remain cautious and verify any such communication through official channels.

The message in question falsely links Aadhaar updates with access to banking services, creating unnecessary panic among users.

To avoid falling victim to such scams, users should follow a few essential precautions:

  • Do not click on suspicious links or download unknown applications,
  • Never share personal, banking, or Aadhaar information with unverified sources,
  • Always rely on official websites or apps for updates and services, and
  • Report fraudulent messages

In case of receiving suspicious messages, users should immediately report them to the State Bank of India via the official email ID. Prompt reporting helps authorities take necessary action and prevent further misuse.

With the growing number of online scams, staying informed and vigilant is crucial.

Official agencies continue to remind users that legitimate organisations like SBI do not request sensitive details through unofficial means.
