Beware Of Fake e-PAN Card Download Emails: PIB Issues Warning

Recently, the Press Information Bureau (PIB) has raised an alarm over fraudulent emails being sent to individuals, asking them to download an e-PAN card. These emails are not authentic and are part of phishing attempts designed to steal financial and personal information.

PIB clearly stated that these emails are fake and urged recipients not to respond to any such emails, links, phone calls, or SMS messages requesting sensitive financial data.

Taking to the official account on X, PIB posted, “Have you also received an email asking you to download e-PAN Card? #PIBFactCheck This Email is #Fake Do not respond to any emails, links, calls & SMS asking you to share financial & sensitive information.”

Responding to these fraudulent messages could compromise your personal information and lead to identity theft or financial loss.

What to Do If You Receive Such Emails?

If you receive an email asking you to download your e-PAN card or requesting financial information, do not click on any links or attachments. Do not provide any personal or banking details.

Instead, report the phishing attempt to the appropriate authorities immediately.

The government has set up channels to report such fraudulent emails to help protect the public and track cybercriminals. Citizens are encouraged to forward suspicious emails to the designated cybercrime cells or official portals for prompt action.

With the increase in digital transactions and online services, cyber frauds like phishing have become more common.

Public awareness and caution are essential in safeguarding sensitive information from misuse. Always verify the authenticity of communications before responding or clicking on any links.

The PIB’s fact check serves as a vital reminder to remain vigilant against cyber fraud. Do not fall prey to fake emails asking to download e-PAN cards or share confidential details. Stay alert, verify sources, and report suspicious activities to ensure your online safety.

This advisory reflects the government’s commitment to protecting citizens from online scams and strengthening cybersecurity awareness across the country.
