AI Deepfake Targets Colonel Sofia Qureshi; Falsely Links Trishul Drills To Bihar Polls

A deepfake video circulated by several Pakistani social media accounts has falsely portrayed Indian Army officer Colonel Sofia Qureshi criticising the Trishul military exercises as a political ploy for the upcoming Bihar elections.

The debunked clip deliberately distorts Colonel Qureshi’s original speech from the Indian Army’s Chanakya Dialogue.

In her real address, she praised India’s youth for their active role in national security. She also highlighted their vital contribution to building Viksit Bharat 2047.

In reality, the Indian armed forces are conducting the ongoing Trishul exercises along the western borders.

These tri-service drills integrate multiple domains of warfare to enhance coordination. They also strengthen combat readiness against regional threats, especially from Pakistan.

Officials clarified that these operations are part of India’s routine defence preparedness and have no connection to electoral politics.

The forged video used sophisticated AI-based voice and facial manipulation to make it appear as though Colonel Qureshi was condemning the exercises.

Experts who reviewed the footage confirmed multiple signs of digital tampering, including mismatched lip movements and artificial voice modulation.

Colonel Sofia Qureshi is a decorated officer in the Indian Army. She became the first woman to lead an Indian Army contingent abroad. She also briefed on Operation Sindoor, highlighting India’s focus on gender inclusion and operational excellence.

Her reputation for professionalism and leadership makes her a frequent target of propaganda campaigns aimed at undermining military credibility.

Defence analysts identify this as a growing trend in hybrid warfare.

Adversaries use misinformation and deepfake technologies to spread confusion. These tactics deliberately aim to weaken public trust in national institutions.

The Indian Army and cyber intelligence agencies have stepped up efforts to trace the origin of such content and raise awareness about AI-manipulated propaganda.

Citizens are urged to verify information through official defence and government channels before sharing sensitive material online.

As AI-driven misinformation grows more sophisticated, digital vigilance remains crucial to protect the integrity of India’s armed forces and national discourse.
