Bollywood superstar Shah Rukh Khan once explained why he prefers not to rehearse dance steps, saying he believes in keeping his performances natural and spontaneous.
On the occasion of the actor’s 61st birthday on November 2, Prasar Bharati Archives shared a throwback video in which Shah Rukh spoke about his approach to dancing and what the art form means to him.
“I believe in a lot of naturalism. So, that is why I don’t even rehearse on the dance floor,” the actor said.
Explaining his approach, Shah Rukh said he prefers to arrive on the film set and respond to the situation rather than follow rehearsed movements.
“I come on the set; whatever is happening, I have to do it here. And I keep adding my character to it,” he added.
The Jawan actor shared his personal definition of dance, describing it as an instinctive expression of joy through movement. He explained that dancing does not necessarily require technical perfection or formal steps; it is about allowing music to move the body in whatever way feels natural.
Shah Rukh Khan has delivered several memorable dance performances throughout his career, including ‘Chaiyya Chaiyya’ from Dil Se (1998), ‘Dard-e-Disco’ from Om Shanti Om (2007), ‘Chammak Challo’ from RA One (2011) and ‘Lungi Dance’ from Chennai Express (2013).
The birthday celebrations come as fans await his upcoming film King, directed by Siddharth Anand and scheduled to release on December 24, 2026.
