Taapsee Pannu Steps Into The Courtroom In Taut ‘Assi’ Motion Poster

After days of suspense-building promotional campaigns, the makers of Assi have finally revealed Taapsee Pannu’s role in the upcoming film directed by Anubhav Sinha. The motion poster, unveiled on Friday, offers a gripping first look into what promises to be a hard-hitting cinematic experience.

Shared by Taapsee on Instagram, the motion poster shows a girl running along railway tracks, desperately trying to escape as three men chase her. The visuals are stark and unsettling, underscored by the words ‘An Urgent Watch’ flashing across the screen.  The poster concludes on a striking image of Taapsee, her face smeared in ink, hinting at the film’s legal and moral undertones.

Alongside the poster, Taapsee wrote: “It’s been long… Long since we normalised this….See you in court….I mean the theatres… #Assi – an urgent watch, only in cinemas from 20th Feb.”

A Question We Choose To Ignore

Assi is described as a relentless investigative thriller that unfolds through an intense courtroom drama. The narrative poses a disturbing question that confronts society daily, one that is often conveniently ignored.

As the film progresses towards its conclusion, it leaves viewers grappling with uncomfortable reflections: Why didn’t I know this? Or did I? It challenges conventional ideas of guilt and justice, asking whether those proven guilty are the only ones responsible.

The film features an ensemble cast including Revathy, Manoj Pahwa, Mohammed Zeeshan Ayyub, Kani Kusruti, Naseeruddin Shah, Seema Pahwa, and Supriya Pathak.

The promotional campaign began earlier this week with two text-only posters reading, “Eighty. Per Day. Every Day. ASSI, the title and February 20, the release date (sic).” This was followed by another poster announcing the writer as the highest-paid crew member, underscoring the centrality of writing to the project.

Presented by Gulshan Kumar and T-Series, Assi is a Benaras Mediaworks Production, directed by Anubhav Sinha and produced by Bhushan Kumar, Krishan Kumar, and Anubhav Sinha. The film releases in theatres worldwide on February 20. Taapsee and Sinha have previously collaborated on ‘Mulk’ and ‘Thappad.’
