Popular filmmaker Sangeeth Sivan, aged 65, passed away at a private hospital in Mumbai on Wednesday. The news of his demise has sent shockwaves through the Indian film industry.
Sivan, known for his diverse contributions to both Malayalam and Hindi cinema, leaves behind a legacy that has significantly influenced the cinematic landscape.
Sangeeth Sivan’s last rites will take place at the Oshiwara Crematorium ground in Mumbai this evening. Sanjeev Sivan, Sangeeth’s brother and filmmaker, confirmed that the body was brought to Sangeeth’s Andheri residence. The final ceremonies will commence at 4 PM, paying tribute to his remarkable career and life.
Although Sangeeth Sivan hailed from Thiruvananthapuram, his family opted to conduct the last rites in Mumbai, a city that had been his home for several decades.
Sangeeth’s ties to Mumbai were deeply rooted, reflecting his significant contributions to the Indian film fraternity.
Sangeeth Sivan’s illustrious career began under the mentorship of his father, a National Award-winning film personality.
Initially an assistant, he later became a writer and executive producer, starting with the Hindi film Raakh in 1989. His directorial debut, Yoddha (1992), marked a milestone in Malayalam cinema, emerging as one of its biggest hits.
Subsequently, Sivan transitioned to Mumbai, where he directed a series of Hindi films and web series, leaving an indelible mark on Bollywood.
Sangeeth Sivan’s cinematic legacy, marked by versatility and captivating storytelling across genres, ends with his passing. His departure leaves a profound void in Indian cinema, mourned by colleagues, admirers, and cinephiles.
