Priyanka Chopra Jonas: Priyanka Chopra Jonas who is ruling the globe revealed than she is finally getting paid as much as her male co-stars in Hollywood.
Her upcoming project ‘Citadel’ is a game changer in her 20 year career where this has finally happened for her.
According to a report by Variety, in an interview for BBC’s 100 women Priyanka said “I’ve never had pay parity in Bollywood”, she further added, “I would get about 10% of the salary of my co-star. (The pay gap is large) and so many women still deal with it. I’m sure I will too if I worked with a male co-star now in Bollywood.
My generation of female actors has definitely asked (for equal pay)” she added. “We’ve asked but we’ve not got it”.
Priyanka also mentioned about the sexism she dealt within Bollywood where she had to wait while the male actors would take their own time. She also mentioned about how she was called ‘dusky’ and ‘black cat’ for her skin colour.
Priyanka has mentioned in many public platforms about the discrimination she had faced as a teenager when she attended school in America and was called ‘Brownie’.
It’s great that Priyanka is using her status as a powerful icon to address these issues. Though does make one wonder if it shows her country of origin in a bad light? Considering that it was India’s Bollywood and the Miss India platform that gave her an entry into the world of glamour & beauty which led her to the world of acting.
There is no doubt that Bollywood has its issues. Calling out the Indian Film Industry on an international platform doesn’t seem like the most appropriate thing to do.
Priyanka’s status as a Hollywood star and global icon is established. Citadel is an action spy series by Avengers: Infinity Wars filmmakers Joe and Anthony Russo. It will be streaming on Amazon Prime and will see Priyanka Chopra Jonas and Richard Madden in leading roles.
